Crochet Fashion is officially Back

Not only social media is abuzz with new handmade products, but also fast-fashion stores have noticed what everyone is feeling: Crochet is Back in Fashion and We Love It!

There are records of crocheting from the beginning the 19th century. It appeared in several waves or fell into obvilion during these more than two hundred years. The first great success was a consequence of the second Industrial Revolution. Due to the boom in mass production, crocheted products became cheaper and became popular among middle- and upper-class women.

However, it only became really fashionable at the beginning of the 20th century, and mostly in the '60s and '70s, due to the hippies and other subcultures. In the 21st century, not only crochet, but also amigurumi, macrame and kntitting have bacome popular.

From the 2010s, it also appears in modern fashion, today's big fashion brands such as Dior or Dolce & Gabanna also design crocheted clothes. But we won't have to think about such big and expensive brands, if we go into any fast-fashion brand store, we're sure to find a crocheted pice of clothing.

Nevertheless, it is important to mention that crocheted is the only handicraft that cannot be mechanized. The products sold in fast-fashion stores and called crocheted were actually machine-knitted goods or made under working conditions that raise ethical questions.

But why is crocheting so popular these days and why are more and more people starting crochet?

• increases creativity
• it's also perfect for me time and group activities
